JUDGE GRESSON.

The late Judge Gresson, who died at his residence in Fendalton last migiht, was bora in County Meatb on Jam. 31, 1809, and died on Ms ninety-second birthday. Before coming to New Zealand he practised as an, equity barTister at the Chancery Bar, in Dublin.. He left Dublin for this colony im the early part of 1854, and for some years practised as a solicitor here. Later on ihe was appointed Provincial Solicitor and Crown. Prosecutor. In 1858 he was raised to the Bench, and , retired in 1875. For many years he resided in the house at tihe comer of Worcester Street and Manchester Street, nearly opposite the Exhibition, buildings. He took a keen interest in farming pursuits, and, after residing for some time on his estate at Waiora, Woodend, he sold it, amd took up his residence at Fendalton, where he passed away. .He was a sound lawyer, and; botihi at Home and in the colony made a reputation for himself 'by the great pains he always, took in any work he bad ia "hand. Winer-' ever he went, he was highly respected, on account of his admirable characteristics. Mrs Gresson died a number of yeacs ago. The deceased gentleman leaves two daughters to mourn their loss. , ' Judge Gresson was at one time' President of the Philosophical Institute of Christohurtfh. He had also been Chairman of the Boaaxl of Governors of Canterbury College, and Chancellor of the Diocese of ChristchuToh. He was, da addition, a Fellow of Christ's College, Camberbury.
