— : • CHRISTCHURCH. Feidav, August 23. (Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) The Stbekt Cobnbb By-law. — W. K. Sanders, G. Standeven and S. Day were charged with driving vehicles at other than a walking pace acrosß the intersection or High and Cashel Streets. The charges wero admitted and the defendants were convicted and ordered to pay 7a costs in each case. _ Maintenance Casks.— James M'Guvery was charged with being of sufficient ability to contribute towards the support of hia daughter Minnie M'Gilvery, an inmate of the Burnham Industrial School, and an order was prayed for to compel him to do so. Hiß Worship ordered the defendant to pay 6s a week.— William John Welsh was charged with neglecting to provide his wife, --Lilian Harriet Welsh, with adequate means of maintenance. Mr Johnston appeared for the complainant, and Mr Donnelly for the defendant. The evidence showed that the complainant and the defendant were living apart from each other, that the defendant had six children and himself to support, that his weekly earnings averaged 31s, and that he was in debt to the extent of about JB3OOO. The complainant was unable to earn sufficient to support herself , owing to ill-health. His Worship ordered <.v_ j„f^jant tn n.v hia wife 8a a week.
