St John Ambulance Association.

A meeting of the Committee of the Christchurch Branch of the St John Ambulance Association was held at the City Council Chambers at 4.15 p.m. yesterday. His Worship the Mayor (Mr Hulbert) presided, and there were also present Mesdaines Hoare, Peacock, Webb, Carter, and Miss Pheney, the Eev T. Plavell (Hon Sec), Messrs W. H. Shaw, A. Evans, and H. S. E. Hobday (Hon Treasurer). The Chairman referred to the success of the ambulance competition in connection with the Volunteer Fancy Fair, and mentioned that the Fire Brigade had secured the Association's prize. A letter from Captain Perrott, Chief Secretary of the St John Ambulance Society in England, was read, congratu--lating the Key T. Flavell on the great success that had attended his efforts to establish branches of the Society here. He forwarded a number of blank certificates, and stated that attendance at another course ot lectures (after failure) is not insisted on though it is desirable, before re-examina-tion. Members of the hon medical staff would be elected life members after they have given two courses of lectureß gratis. Special thanks were expressed to Drs Hacon and Chapman for the services they had rendered. A letter from the Eangiora branch was read, enclosing a cheque, .£l4 odd, aa a refund of expenses incurred. The Secretary stated that £7 had been received from Kaiapoi and £5 from Lyttelton. Dr Chapman had refunded £1 Is, allowed to him for expenses incurred in visiting Eangiora. He also said that he had received applications from three certificated nurses, requesting that they might be placed on the .register of the Association. The Chairman of the branch, with Mr C. P. Hulbert, and the Secretary and Treasurer, were appointed an Executive to confer with the honorary medical staff with regard to the admission of uncertificated nurses to the Association's register. The Key T. Flavell eulogised the action of Mr C. P. Hulbert in taking so lively an interest in the Association, and proposed that he be elected a vice-President. Mr Evans seconded the motion, which was unanimously carried. It was decided to defer purchasing a skeleton for the use of the classes for the present. The Committee resolved not to meet in January, and to hold the next meeting on the first Tuesday in February. It was agreed that, as funds permit, stretchers and ambulance requisites should be supplied for the use of the branches at Kaiapoi, Eangiora, and Lyttelton. The Committee then adjourned.
