Election Rumours.

♦ Rumour is already busy in connection with the next general election. If rumour may be believed, the present member for Christchurch North will have no walk-over chance, since Messrs S. P. Andrews and Berry Cass are already in training, the latter, it is understood, having foregone an ardent desire to once more occupy a seat in the City Council, lest his running against Mr Hugh Bennetts might militate against his success in the higher aspiration. Mr T. S. Weston is also spoken of as a candidate for Christchurch North, or possibly for St Albans, where, it is stated, a change would be acceptable. The Stanmore electors, it is asserted, will be wooed again by the gay deceiver who so effectually misrepresents them ; and against him will be arrayed Messrs C. P. Hulbert, W. Flesher and R. Clephane. Possibly, however, it may be found that the introduction of Mr Hulbert's name is a random guess. In the Kaiapoi district, where an extraordinary vacancy occurs through Mr Isaac Wilson's resignation, Government influence is supposed to be working silently against the Hon E. Richardson, who, however, will probably show his opponents " a clean pair of heels." The names of Messrs A. Saunders and Captain Parsons are mentioned, the former as a candidate on the temperance ticket.
