LYTTELTON ELECTION.

♦ — The election of a member for the General Assembly took place yesterday, and excited the greatest interest in the town, ihere are about 280- electors in Lyttelton, and 237 voted,, so that the contest was a close one. Daring the day there was the usual excitement, and at 4.20 a large crowd assembled at the Colonhts' Hall, where Dr Donald declared the following as the result of the poll : — H.R.Webb 122 H. P. Murray -Aynßley ... 115 Majoiity for Webb, 7. The result was received with great cheering. Mr Webb addressed the electors at length, thanking them for the way they had worked for him. Mr H. P. Murray-Aynsley also addressed the electors. A vote of thanks to the Keturning Officer closed the proceedings.
