Mr W. Penrose, of Duncdin, left Tiniaru yesterday on his return to tho southern city. Mr James Jamieson. who is well known in Christ-church business circles and has been staying in Tiniaru for a low days, returned to Christclnireli by the first express yesterday. At last night's meeting of the Waimate Borough Council, the Town Clerk, Mr C. Dash, was granted another four weeks' leave of absence. It was reported that he was progressing favourably aI'KT his recent operation. Mr and Mrs J. Low, cud residents of Cave, arc leaving with their family this day week to join the Itunhlne at "Wellington, for a visit to the Old Country. A notice appears to-day of the marriage at Monte Video of the eldest son of 31 r C. X. Macintosh, a former Mayor of Timaru, to a daughter of Mr S. Head, of Tiniaru. Mr C. N. Macintosh has a business in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, and his eldest son, the recent bridegroom, manages a branch of it in Monte Video, the capital of the neighbouring republic of Uruguay, on the opposite side of the great estuary of the itiver Piate. The Faii-view Methodist Bible Class held a social last week in order to say farewell to Miss Corcher, one of t-heiu-most valued members. A short proA gramme of instrumental and vocal items was rendered by Mrs Ellis, Misses Lucy Itaddon, Robert-sou, Corcher, Hew A. Allen, and Messrs F. Ellis, and P. B. Strongman. The leader of the class (Rev. A. Allen), on behalf of the members, presented Miss Corcher with a tasteful gold locket and chain. In making tho presentation the speaker referred to the help that Miss Corcher had rendered to the class, to the Sunday School, and to the church services in Fairview, and expressed tlie hope that wherever Miss Corcher went she would find her place in Christian work. Miss Corcher feelingly responded, thanking the members for their kindness. Supper was handed round and games played, bringing a very successful social to a close.
