FATAL FIRE NEAR AUCKLAND.
HEROIC CONDUCT OF A BOY. (By Telegraph.) Auckland, March 16. Additional particulars re the burning of the Tauiahere Hotel, show that Mr Camp, publican, was roused by two men who were riding past. When awakened he at once mode for the staircase, but when half down, he was driven back by the flames and smoke, and waking up his eldest son, Harry, about 16, told him to try and save his brothers He then got out of one of the front windows, and clambered along a parapet and let himself down by a lamp over the door. He then got a ladder used for lighting the lamp, and put it to Mrs Camp's window. He succeeded without great trouble m getting her and her new-born baby out of the window, also four little children. In the meantime Harry Camp got hold of one of his brothers (Willie) and carried him to escape by the staircase which runs up the back of the house. There he met a man who took the child from him. Harry then faced the fire, and tried to get back and save his brothers Edward, aged 4, and Albert, aged 11. The flames and smoke beat him back, and sweeping over him forced | him to jump through the flames by the window at the bock. He was severely burnt about the head and chest, and one of his arms was broken. He now lies at Mr Armstrong's house m a precarious condition, attended by Dr Cashney. Two of the boys, Edward and Albert, both perished m the flames. Willie Camp was also severely burnt, but is m no danger. It is supposed the fire was caused by ashes blowing under the hotel. Mr Camp has lost every penny, the insurance being m favor of a building society.
