GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND.
HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. [PEfl UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Tuesday, October 11.— The House met at 7.30 p.m. The Speaker announced that he had presented himself on Friday to the Governor, as the choice of the House in that capacity. Fifteen new members were sworn in and Major Atkinson then proceeded to make a Ministerial statement. He announced tho portfolios as follows: Major Atkinson, Premier, Treasurer, aud Postmaster-Geaeral. Mr. G. Fi er, Minister of Education. Mr. Fer o s, Minister of Defence and Mines. Mr. Richardson, Minister of Lands Immigration, and Marine. Mr. Hislop, Colonial Secretary and Minister of Justice. Sir F. Whitaker, Attorney-General. Mr. Stevens, Upper House, without portfolio. Mr. Mitchelaon, Minister of Public \Vorks and Native Minister. After Major Atkinson had made his announcement of the re-allotment of portfolios, Sir J. Yogel asked if Tuesday week would not be long enough for the adjournment. Several members spoke on the subject, and Major Atkinson insisted that the magnitude of the task demanded at least a fortnight. If tho Financial Statement was not ready by Friday fortnight he would bring it down on the Tuesday following. Sir J. Yogel remarked that as the Governor's speech might contain a question of policy he would not bind himself to let it pass without debate. The House rose at 8.5 p.m.
