CARNIVAL AT ROTORUA.

Auckland, February 23. The Rotorua carnival opened today in the presence of a large gathering, including many visitors from Auckland and other parts of the Colony. One interesting ceremony was bhe unveiling of the memorial to Sergeant Wylie, who fell in the \ South African war. It was unveiled /by Mr Herries, M.H.R. The rest of i the day was devoted to a regatta and sports. The Maori element /was very prominent in the aquatic I events.
