The game played yesterday on the Richmond Athlotic' Association's Ground resulted in a win for the colonials, but it was hardly a satisfactory ono, they often infringing the rules and playing nioro than once in a manner that called forth adverse comment. Although beaten by two tries to a try, tho London Welsh had by no means the worst of the game, Their foiwavd play

was first class, R. h. Thomas, W. Daniel, and T. W. Lockwood being conspicuous. F. Morgan, at half-back, played splendidly, being here, there, and everywhere, while all the three-quarters did very well, especially H. M. Jordan. The success of the Maoris was to a great extent due tpo the really excellent play of E. McCausland at full back, and had it not been for him the London Welsh would havo scored on sevoral occasions. The game took place in the new ground, which was in first-rato condition, tho goal- post being end on to the pavilion, and a strong wind blew direct fiom it. Tho London Welsh, we may here mention, had the advantage ot this during tho (irst half, but it had not so much ofiect on the game as might havo been expected. A large number ot spectators lined the ropes, the fine afternoon inducing many ladies to put in an appearance G. The latter's for wards prevented them from scoring, and then Joidan made a fine run up the ground, and was nearly in, but McUausland forced him into touch, the ball shortly after tvards going into touch in goal. Play at either end of the giound followed, the Welshmen tackling, and MeOauslaud saving ee«'cral times. Home smart passing among the New Zealandero in their halt ended in Keogh failing to take the ball liom Elliotr, and Davicb picking it up smartly, he ran in by touch, Biggs failing with the place kick. Then the Maoiis pressed, and alter scrums, in the Welsh ' twenty-fivo,' from one closo to thu goal line D. Stewart secured and cios«ed it. McCausland took the place kick, but w^s unsuccessful, halt-time soon arriving, v ii.h tho fccoie a try and a touch-in-goal for London Welsh, to a try for tho Maoris. The latter, on changing ends, at once forced the play, but ii> was some time before anything further was scoied, Jordan and Watkin deiending m ell. But at last Elliott passed to Koogh, who transferred to Warbrick, and the last-named ran it. Again McCau&land took tha place-kick unsuccessfully. Some tine vVelsh forwaid play, Daniel and Thomas diibbling well/ took the game to the Maoi'i quarteis, but they soon transferred it to the other end, Morgan once or twice gained a little. Keogh, how- , ever, had an opportunity, and took a drop at goal, only a touch-down resulting. Some quick passing backwards and forwards across the ground by the Maoris was neutralised by a find collar of Jordan's, and then combined back and rorward play of the Welshmen, in which Watkin?, Jordan, Thomas, and Daniel each pei formed, transfened the ball with a msh to the other end, the last-named being forced into touch by goal. Scrums about there followed, Jordan being nearly in. The New Zealanders cleared to the centre, horn where, however, Morgan made a fine run, but slipped and fell just as ho was cios&ing the line. Some very tight scrums closo to goal ended in the New Zealanders suddenly rushing to the other end, where the ball was kicked over, and the Welshmen couched down. Vciy shorrly "No side" was called, the New Zealanders winning by two tries and two touches down to one try and one touch-in-goal for the London Welsh. Mr E. G.
