TAURANGA Y. KATIKATI. Tauranga, Sept. 24.
The football match to-day between Tauranga and Katikati was won by the former by three goals to one, although the latter had the help of a powerful contingent of Auckland players, including T. O'Connor, O. Wells, G. Carter, and Hobson (?). In the first spell Tauranga got a goal, kicked by Henry Tanner from a try secured by himself. Within five minutes of this score the ball was taken well up the field by the Katikati team, and O'Connor kicked a splendid goal from the field. In the second spell Tauranga had all the best of it, and gained two goals, kicked by Henry Tanner from tries obtained by Maxwell and W. Turner. The Auckland players did yeoman service for Katikati, O'Connor's strong play and Carter's collaring being greatly admired. The Tauranga players showed a great improvement on their play last Saturay against the Auckland team, having eridently taken to heart the lessons they were taughb on that occasion.
