RACE FOR THE DERBY.

I The race for the Derby Was run with 1 great judgment from start to finish. 1 Johnny Rieff took the lead on Tagalie | rounding Tottenham corner, and showed | the way to the quarter-mile. At this I point the filly was ruipiing splendidly, I and had tho race at her mercy. A fur- I lonjr from home Tracery ran through his I horses with a great rush, but Tagalie | was equal to the challenge; and going away won m a canter by four lengths from Jaeger, with Tracery third. Tlie King's colt Pintandeau was fourth, and Sweeper 11., who started favorite, seventh. The crowd was quite as large as ...usual, despite the threatening state § oi* the weather. The King and Queen I Mary were amongst the early arrivals, 1 and received a tumultuous * reception. § Most of the papers tipped Sweeper 11., 1 but honied that tho King would win I with Pintandeau. The Americans backed I Sweeper II very heavily. He was ridden 3 by Denny Maher. ■ Tagalie was a rank 1 oulsider when- she won the One fl .thousand Guineas on May 3. ' {
