♦— — SIRG. GREY A LIKELY CANDIDATE AucJKi^AND, to-day. Mr David Goldie has resigned his seat in the House of Representatives, City Council, and Board of Education, as ho has to leave for Melbourne on urgent business in a few weeks, and may not be back in time for the meeting of the House. He has written to Sir George Grey asking him to stand for the seat, and to the Chairman of his Committee to the aaine effect. Sir Geo. Grey, interviewed on the subject, stated he would require time to consider, but said ho would probably stand for the vacant seat if not put to the trouble and excitement of a contested election. Messrs Porter and London are already out for the Newton seat, bub it is understood both will retire when Sir George Qrey's candidature is announced.
