At a general meeting of the Timaru Racing Club last night it was resolved to amalgamate with the South Canterbury Jockey Club if tho latter will except five life mombers of the T.R.C. as members of the amalgamated clubs. Forty-six nominations have been received for tho Plunipton Park Coursing Meeting, Canterbury. Apropos of Atalanta, the dam of Ayrshire, who won tho Chesterfield Stakes at Nowmarket, " Pavo," in the Morning Post, says : — " Atalanta's early history is a remarkablo ono. Bred by Lord Roaslyn, at Easton, she was such a sickly foal that it was found necessary to bring her into the ring in a blanket. At the break-up of the partnership between his Lordship and Mr D. Cooper Lord Rosslyn purchased her for halfa-croivn, won £2000 in stakes with her, and eventually sold the mare for £1500 to the Duke of Portland. On July 7 C. Wood was at tho head of the list of winning jockeys with 78 successful rides, G. Barrett being second with 59. The Auckland Racing Club has drawn up their programmes for tho ensuing year. Tho total amount proposed to be given in stakes during the season is £7,230, apportioned as follows : — Spring meeting, £1,020 ; summer meeting, £3,84.0 ; autumn meeting, £1,670 ; winter meeting, £700. It was further resolved to reduce tho added money of the Cup to £750, the distance of the race still remaining at 2h miles. After a good deal of deliberation the clubdecided to place tho Derby on the fir3t day's programme of the summer meeting, the Cup race to to be run on the second day — New Year's Day. This step ha 3 provoked soma adverse comment. Besides tho Derby, the other principal raco on* tho first day of the summer meeting will be the A.R,C. Handicap, 1| mile.
