ANOTHER CONSTABLE BEFORE THE COURT.

Tuesday. As a result of the further inquiries made by the detectives and as mentioned in yesterday's issue, another arrest cf a constable was effected on .Saturday night, the accused in this instance being Constable Oliver Henry Osborne, who joined the force late in 1902. Osborne was charged before Mr C. C. Graham, S.M., at the City Police Court yesterday morning with having, on or about March 9, stolen five packets or envelopes and two packages of note-paper, valued at 3s 9d, the property of James Wallace, of the Crown Print Company, Princes street.

Mr S. Solomon appeared for the accused. Sub-inspector Green applied for a remand till Friday, and, Mr Solomon offering- no obiection, the remand was granted. Mr Solomon then asked that bail mig-ht be. fixed, and said there was some discussion with tho police on the Sunday about the subject of bail, and it could not be fixed up, but the police were thou agreeable to one surety for £100 afiven by accused and two additional securities for £50 each. That bail was forthcoming if it would satisfy the court.

The Magistrate said I.c would accept that bail; it was not a charge of breaking and entering, as in the other ea-e«, and therefore not so serious.

umbrellas (both ladies' and gentlemen's), silver butcer knife set in case, sugar spoor* set in case, carpeuter's brace-and-bit, box of file?, carpenter's spiral bits of all sizes in flannel pockets. .22-bore Winchester rifle, a number of boxes of fine rifle cartridges, cut-glass inkstand, vases, soda-water ' syphon, silver knife and fork in case, biscuit barrel, bottles of perfume, cocoa in tins, several bottles of Walker's whisky with tho labels washed off, a number of large-sized flasks of Ben MacDhui whisky, bottles of brandy and Australian wine from the Yalumba vineyards, rugs, pair of opera glasses, pockotbooks in morocco and other fancy leather, a number of pocket knives of all sorts, packet of dress tape, packet of sox, shaving brushes, hammer, chisel, packets of violet powder, a bottle of blood: purifier, bottle of Soott's Emulsion, tin of vi-cocoa, several tins sardines, packet Indian cornflour, several packets extract of soap, an assortment of knives and forks, several bottles of black lacquer, tins of golden syrup, bundles of boot and shoe laces, packet lead pencils, children's silk pinafores, carving knife and fork, packets of tea, packet of maizena. bottle of Carey's soothing croam, small alarm clock, cigar box containing packets of cigarettes, lady's pink underskirt, lengths of tweed and flannelette, engineer's screw wrench, razors, and a large heap of some 300 cheap Christmas, New Year, and birthday cards. On No. 2 table were two gentlemen's silver-mounted silk umbrellas, five or six ladies' bilver-mounted fancy leather purses, two pairs opera glasses of modern pattern, one pair field glasses in ease, several boxes of assorted cutlery, leather case containing toilet bottles, silver-handled shoe horn, five or six bottles of whiskyj, bottles of rum, port, and other wines, about a dozen large flanks of Ben MacDhui whisky, three bottles pommade Hongroise (moustache wax), three bottles cream of canthrides, razor strop, razors, small clock mounted in ornamental brasswork, a bundle of ladies' fur«, rugs, fancy tablecloths, carriage rug, five or six bath sponges, soap, bottle schnapps, box of as-sorted metal and composition combs, hand saw, carpenter's square, soap boxes, several silver-backed hair and olothes brushes, bottle cocoanufc oij, bottles lavender and other perfume, bottle Friar's balsam, box tooth powder, pocket lenives, photo frames, brushes of all descriptions, several ladies' umbrellas, and toys such as engines and steam boats, and a spirit flask.

On table No. 3 were packets of envelopes, cigar and cigarette cases, foot rule, shaving soap, bottle eau-de-cologne ico vnter, two silver-mounted briar pines, silvermounted L. and Co. briar pipe with vulcanite and amber mouthpieces in case, hairclipper, gloves, lengths of tweed, silvermounted purse, quantity of Havelock and Golden Eagle tobacco, about two dozen boring bits of all sizes, shaving brush, and cigarette and cigar holders. Table No. $ was well laden with blankets, rugs, tobacco in cake, box containing pair of corsets, a number of cravats, cigarette tobacco, a quantity of fancy soan. some tweed, two tobacco pipes, writing" paper, etc.

On table No. 5, noted as " Miscellaneous,"' there were several article* in cut glass, a number of mouth organs, butter dishes r several articles of men's underclothing, photo frames, a number of tooth brushes, two toilet boxp*. and several small articles.

On the mantelpiece was a leather handbag, a spirit flask, and a gentleman's goldmounted umbrella.
