DIAMOND JUBILEE'S ECLIPSE STAKES.
The Sportsman's special writes : The parade and canter were led by Old Buck 11, who did not move very freely, and nothing really went better at this stage than Ambrosia 11. There was one false start, which would have been better than the actual one had Mr Coventry let them go. When the flag ultimately fell, Johnny Reiff Avas the first lo fliow in advance with Chevening, and it might have been better had he stayed there, as when he rode the colt at Kempton, especially as he ■had a pull in the weights; but he evidently had his oidcrs, and pulled back behind Diamond Jubilee. T don't for a moment think the result could have been altered, and it i? to be noted that the pace was very hot indeed, tlie lime being a record for this course. Diamond Jubilee ran his race smoothly and well throughout, and Jones was as cool as a encumber — if anyone could be so in this -weather. "Entering the rails, Diamond Jubilee, on the inside, seemed to have his race ■won, but Chevening, a length or so behind, was sticking well to his work, and the big 'horse cams on in grand stylo, but the little cne is a thorough sticker, and for a moment it seemed possible that the weight would tell. 'Little iieifi" rode for all he was worth, but he could never really get on terms with his Opponent, • who won cleverly by half a length. Skopoi was an indifferent third, but near enough to give his trainer a line. Of 'course there was great "heering, and worshippers of the latest idol 'declared him superior to .Flying fox; but there [ draw the line. lam aware that Mr Hugging, _ taking irhe lino through Caiman, thinks Diamond 'Jubilee better than the wonderful son of Orme, but no one ever got the measure of (Flying Fox either in public or private when 'he was well, and so it is useless to argue the question. On the other hand, it was made pretty clear last October that Flying Fox •could give Scintillant at least 281b, and Scinlillant in the Leger was as good as Caiman, who, meeting Diamond Jubilee the other day at even weights, which means only 121b advantage for the year, was a good third to Ins second. 1 think we car see pretty clearly from this what Flying Fox could have done with Diamond Jubilee, good though the latter is.
