Before reaching the old Spagnoletti board Bellatrix and Merry Andrew were in trouble, and Ossory challenged Nunwick and Galore, drawing into third place on the outside, and Netheravon lying fourth on the rails. Nunwick was beaten opposite the commencement of the royal enclosure, where Galore made his effort, and for a few strides held Ossory, but the latter shaking him off 100 yds from home, came on, and won in a canter by three lengths ; half a length divided second and third. Nunwick was fourth, Merry Andrew fifth, Bellatrix sixth, Aperse seventh; then 20 lengths' off came Arrandale eighth, with Lord Nelson 'a -similar distance behind him last. Time, 2min 52sec. Value of the stakes, £2225.

Veracity, who swerved at the finish, had shot his bolt opposite the entrance to the royal enclosure, and though Attila, answering to Chandley's calls, ran as game as a pebble, he could never quite get on level turns with Shillelagh, who gallantly kept his advantage, and won a splendid race amidst the greatest excitement by a neck. Veracity, a length and a-half be- , hind, was third.

Half way up the hill Renown and Cotillon were beaten, and Seabreeze drew out, challenged by Phil, who gradually crept up, and, collaring the favourite 100 yds from home, wore her down, and won a bit cleverly by half a length ; four lengths divided the second and third. Aperse was fourth, Arrandale fifth, Maxim sixth, Cotillon. 1 seventh, and Sheen last. Time, lmin 45sec. Value of the stakes, £970.

pulling [double, took second place to Tissaphernes.whom Watts waapushing along. Outside I the distance Timothy joined' Tissaphernes, and heading him without an effort came up the hill with the race in hand, and won as he pleased by six lengths. Tenebreuse was a bad third, and Bird of Freedom walked in with the crowd. Time, 4min 37 3-saeo. Value of the stakes, £1390.

Savile cut out the work followed by The Cob and Timothy, and in this order they ran in Indian file until entering the straight. Here Timothy joined The Cob, whom he had beaten a few strides further on, and, challenging Savile at the Spagnoletti board, drew clean away, and sailed home the easiest of winners by three lengths ; The Cob was a bad third.
