Galore, who in the previous four attempts had shown a tendency to get quickly off the mark, was first away on the far side, closely attended by Qautby, Ayrshire, and Netheravon, the lastnamed being clear of Crowberry, Orbit, and Van Dieman's Land, while the rear was brought up by Simon Pure and Chillington. The la3t-named pair, however, quickly got on better terms with their field, and as the field crossed the tan road above Sherwood's cottage, Galore and Ayrshire were pulled back, and Gautby' going to the front took up the running from Van Dieman's Land and Orbit, with Chilli ngton, Ayrshire, and Galore in close company lying next, clear of Simon Pure and Netheravon, while Crowberry dropped back last. As they entered the Furzes, Van Dieman's Land joined Gantby, the pair racing head and head, clear of Chilling ton, who here took third place, just in front of Orbit, Simon Pura and Ayrshire lying at the latter's heels, while Crowberry resigned the post of whipper-in to Galore, who here became last. As they raced past the milepost the pace, which had been rather slow, improved, Gautby and Van Dieman's Land now drawing clear of Orbit, while Ayrshire drew into fourth place, with Chillington, Simon Pare, and Netheravon going abreast at the favourite's heels, and Crowberry again dropping back last. Coming down the hill Van Dieman's Land took a slight lead of Gautby, Orbit still lying third in front of Ayrshire, while Galore joining Chillington came next, and the rear was brought up by Simon Pure, Crowberry, and Netheravon. Bounding Tattenham Corner, Gautby lost his place, and Van Dieman's Land was now followed by Orbit and Ayrshire, Gautby lying fourth, clear of Galore, while Simon Pure, beaten, was now last. Van Dieman's Land came into the straight clear of Orbit and Ayrshire, with Galore now taking fourth place, while Crowberry was drawing up on the right, and Gautby Chilington, and Nefcheravon were added to the beaten division. "Some 100 yds after crossing the road Orbit and Ayrshire joined Van Dieman's Land, the three racing together, with Galore at their heels, and though the latter for a few strides looked like joining the leading trio, the effort took all the steam out of him, and he again dropped [back. Orbit was the next to crack, and then Ayrshire, having taken the measure of Van Dieman's Land, who struggled on gamely, inside the distance, looked like coming in alone. But here a new opponent appeared on the scene in Crowberry, with whom John Osborne came with a wet sail, and took second place at theJßeJl, but, though Mr Vyner's colt made a bold bid for victory, he failed to reach Ayrshire, who, responding gamely to Barrett's call, stalled off Crowberry's challenge, and breasting the hill like a lion, won, amidst a tremendous burst of {cheering, by two lengths. Van Dieman's Land secured third place five lengths behind Crowberry, while Galore, who passed Orbit a few strides from the ohair, was fourth, three quarters of a length in front of the Duke of Westminster's colt. Chillington was sixth ; then at an interval of a dozen lengths came Netheravon seventh. Gautby eighth, and Simon Pure last, Mr Clarke placing the whole of the nine runners. Time, 2min 42 l-sseo.
