He was successful in the, July Stakes at the Newmarket July Meeting, Seabreeze and Chillington being his nearest attendants, and next appeared in the Richmond Stakes, at Goodwood, which he also carried off with ease, though carrying a penalty of 101b. At the last-named meeting he was allowed a walkover for the Molecombe Stakes. Hazlebatch ran for the first time in the Champion Foal Stakes, of lOOOsovs, at Derby last month, and won easily in a field of 12. He was purchased by Lord Londonderry as a yearling for 1750g5, that price being forthcoming no doubt on the strength of his being halfbrother to Kermesse, who was the crack two-year-old filly of 1881. Hazlebatch is engaged in all the big events of next season. Seabreeze won this season the Biennial Stakes at Ascot, but has been twice before beaten by Friar's Balsam— in the New Stakes and July Stakes, while at Derby 3he could only get home third in the Harrington Stakes, of lOOOsovs. PEDIGREE OF THE WINNER.
