Betting : sto 2 agst Ayrshire, 9to 2 Ellangowan colt, 5 to 1 Bartizan, 8 to 1 Senanua, 100 to 12 Friday, 100 to 7 Galore, 100 to 6 Briarroot, 20 to 1 Aperse and- Toscano, and 25 to 1 any other.
The race was run in a thick mist, and little could be seen until the horses were nearly home. After about a-quarter of an hour's delay at the post, Bartizan jumped off in front of Friday and Galore, with Ayrshire and Eliangowan colt heading the middle division, while Briar-root and Senanus were well up on the left. After settling down Galore took up the running, but was beaten at the distance, as was also Bartizan, and the running was taken up by Friday, who was followed on the opposite side by Briar-root, and in the centre by Ayrshire and Ellangowan colt. Of these the first beaten was Friday, and Briar-root, getting the best of a splendid race home, won by a neck ; a head separated second and third.
