Charles Sycamore, a young man employed at Mrirua, Wyndham, was thrown from a horse and kiked on Monday evening. He was taken to te Invercargill Hospital on Tuesday, when it ■v&s found that his skull was fractured and inanimation had set in. Little hope is entertined of his recovery. The Tuapeka Flat, Cromwell, and Inch'lutha School Committees have nominated Jessrs Clark and M'Kenzie, and Rae's Juneion, Highcliff, and Ettrick Messrs Clark and 3reen, for the Education Board. The Dunrobin School Committee have nominated Mr M'Kenzie and the Rev. Mr Bannerman, and the North Glekenichn Committee have favoured Messrs M'Kenzie and Farnie.

A special meeting of the Taiori County Council was held on Friday for the purpose of receiving a petition from a ntunbor of Henley ratepayers praying that a drainage district be formed. The object of the ratepayers is to have the drainage district legally constituted in accordance with the legislation of last session of Parliament, the working of the district under the original Act having been found to be almost impracticable. The Council received the. petition, and passed a resolution granting the request. The resolution will come up for confirmation at the next ordinary meeting of the Council. Crs Thompson, Charters, Graham, and Gow attended the meeting.
