After Tristan and Kinsky had shown temper at the post the latter and Corrie Roy cantered in front of the stand, when the mare assumed a clear command, with St Gatien third. They ran thus to the hotel turn, where Corrie Roy drew away half a dozen lengths from Kinsky, who was passed at the Swinley starting-post by Tristan, with St Gatim lying off. Except that Tristan reduced the gap that separated him from Corrie Roy there was no change until St Gatien joined Tristan at the commencement of the 'bend, the pair at the same time taking their places at the heels of Corrio Roy. As soon as they were in the line for home Tristan was pulling over tho favourite of whom he took a slight lead at the distance, when she began to shako him off through his dislike to the close quarters, but St Gatien settled her the moment he was asked to win his race, and going on from .the -stand he won easily by four ienghls ; a bad third. Talisman cut out the work, and was followed at clear intervals by Beauchamp, Sir Reuben, and Hermitage, until entering the old course, when the last-mentioned pair changed placed At the, same time Beacnamp drew up to Talisman's neckj and remained there to the brick kiln, where the favourite again drew cleat of the Tuppill colt, with Hermitage and Sir Reuben closing up. After entering the straight Hermitage went on second and Beauchamp third to the distance, when the lot formed into a line, and with Loates the first to take up his whip. Talisman, on the insida, looked like finishing the last of the four. But before Sir Reuben had got more than half a length the best of Beauchamp, he shut him completely out, and striding away from the middle of the enclosure, won by threa lengths from Hermitago, who defeated tho ungenerous Talisman by a hrad for second money, with Beauchamp a moderate fourth. Regain cut out the work from Gonfalon, Narcissa., and Keir, with Groenbank last, to the hotel turu, where the favourite increased hig lead to half a slozon lengths, with Gonfalon nearly as far in front of Greonbank and Narciesa, the other two alternately whipping in. As they descended the SwinleyHill Gonfalon got on bstter terms again with Regain, and the others went on in tho positions already given to the brick-kilns, where Gonfalon took up the running. At the same time Narcissa and Keir passed Greenbank, and became the immediate attendants of Gonfalon, when Regain hung out signals of distress more than a quarter of a mile from home. With Narcissa now collaring Gonfalon, they got away from Keir to the distance, when Greenbauk, after two or three attempts, secured an opening on the inside. Under tho extra preaßure Narcissa died out, and with the other hanging across the course, Greenbank forged well ahead in the last hundred yards, and won by a length ; three lengths between second and third. Keir was a bad fourth, and Regain a long way last. Time, 3 mm. 42 l-sth sec. The flag fell without a failure, and when the horses appeared in view Light Heart, Sulphur, Monotony, Canzoni, and Magdalen were on the right, Offspring, Royal Stag, Middlethorpe, Vermilion, and Acrostic in the centre, and Eastern Emperor, Outlet, Duke of Richmond, Quicklime, and Corunna on the left. The colours of Offspring and Light Heart were most conspicuous until approaching the road, when they resigned to Royal Stag and Acrostic, who came on from Outlet, Eastern Emperor, and Duke of Richmond, the others being headed by Quicklime, Magdalen, and Vermilion. Of the last- mentioned trio Quicklime had always been running in difficulties, and when Royal Stag compounded a quarter of a mile from home tl.e finish was confined to Acrostic, Duke of Richmond, Cutlet, and Eastern Emperor in the order named, Corunna coming on next. Until they approached the stand tho Duke of Richmond was going as well in Wood's bauds ss could be desired, and having got rid of Cutlet and Eastern Emperor, he had alone to try conclusions with Acrostic. Although the latter hung upon Duke of Richmond sufficiently to drive him slightly out of his line they did not come into collision, and the weight having told a serious tale in the last hundred yards, Acrostic forged ahead and won by a length ; Cutlet was a bad third. On entering the Old Course Terara took a wide sweep, and resigned again to Pontiac, the others gradually creeping up between the brick kilns p,nd the bend. In the straight Terara retired to the rear, and with Beauchamp also losing his place, Pontiac was challenged at the distance by Brest and Cambusmore, of whom the former ran home very gamely and won by a head ; a dead heat for Becond place. Terara was last. Time, 2 mm. 45 sec. THE ST. Although Tristan was with difficulty got to the post the flag fell at tha first attempt, and Friday made the running from lambic, Faugh-a-Ballagh, and Tristan to the stand, where Friday was leading three lengths from lambic, At the latter's quarters lay Faugh-a-Ballagh, with Tristan and St. Simon following at irioderate intervals to the Hotel turn, where Archer drove Faugh-a-Ball.igh to the front. He was almost immediately headed by Tristan, who sailed down the hill at a merry pace, with lambic and St. Simon third and fourth into the Swinley Bpttom, where Friday was tailed off. No sooner had they entered the Old Course than St. Simon changed places with lambic, who also compounded at the brick kilus, leaving gaps of a couple of lenghs between the other three. Although Faugh-a Ballagh had made a succession of strenuous efiorts to overhaul Tristan he was unable to do so, and as they rounded the bend his bolt was «hot. Thereupon St. Simon filled the vacancy, and overhauling Tristan hand over hand tie quieced him bofore reaching the Spagnoletti board, and with Webb quickly accepting the inevitable, St. Simon passed the poßt a twenty lengths' winner; Faugh-a-Ballagh cantering in third, with the others a long way off. Hampton Wick was first away, followed by Eastern Emperor and Hermitage, with the j favourite next and Lucerne whipping in, and they ran in this order to the road. Here ' Hampton Wick dropped back, and Chistlehurst went to the fore with a slight load of Hermitage and Eastern Emperor, and con : tinued in front to the Spagnoletti board, where Lucerne challenged, and soon getting the better of Chistlehurst, won by a couple of lengths ; a head between second and third. THE HARDWICKE STAKES Of 2000 soys, added to a sweepstakes of 10 soys each ; weight for age, with penalties and allowances ; the second received 10 per cent, aud the third 5 per cent, on the whole stakes. Quicklime jumped off in front of Harvester and Condor for a couple of hundred yards, when the last-named drew out with a clear lead of Quicklime and Waterford, Harvester drop ping back $o the company of, Tristan and becoming the absolute whipper-in as thoyentered the Swinley Bottom. Although Condor was at this point three lengths in advance of Watorford, who had just previously taken second place, he made & wide sweep into the old courso and resigned to Waterford. Soon afterwards he retired into obscurity, and Quicklime followed Waterford to the commencement of the bend, when he Was joined by Tristan, and they entered the straight at the heels of the north-country colt. Thus far from home Archer was uneasy upon the favourite, who could no more than struggle into a bad third place from Quicklime, leaving the issue to Waterford and Tristan. The latter pulled his way alongside of Waterford at the distance, and although inclined to hang towards the threo year-old for a few Btvides, Webb eased him to the centre of the enclosure, when he came on and won easily by a length ; a bad third. Donald put out the work at a steady pace, and was followed at clear intervals by Faugh-a-Ballagh and Corrie Roy for rathor more than two miles, when Faugh-a-Ballagh took closer order with Donald, and widened the gap between himself and Corrie Roy. Between the brick kilns and the bend Donald was beaten, and Faugh-a-Ballagh then went on well in front of Corrio Roy until entering tbe straight, when she gradually overhauled hjm and got to his girths a quarter of a niilo from homo. Afterwards she seemed to be holding him comfortably to the distance, when she took up the running, but was then so spun out that Archer bad to bhow bis whip before she volied home tbo winner by a length, both horses being porfectly " rfruuk."
