After a few minutes' delay, caused by the fraotiousness of Galliard, a good start was effected, and Malibran made the running, followed by Laocoon, for a couple of hundred yards, when the latter was pulled back, and Ossian took second place, Laocoon going on third, Ettarre and Ladislas next, and Galliard last. Down the hill and through Swinley Bottom Ettarre drew into third place, Newfield going on fourth, Laocoon fifth, and Galliard stilllast. Three-quarters of a mile from home Malibran was joined by Ossian, Newfield following on their heels two or three lengths clear of Ettarre and Laocoon, and the other two brought up .the rear side by side. In rounding the bend Ossian took up the running, and into the straight was attended by, Malibran, liaocoon, and Galliard, and so they ran to the foot of the hill, where Galliard on the outside and Laooon in the centre drew into second and third places respectively. Ossian was beaten at the distance, and, with the favourite at the same time holding out signals ot distress, Galliard pulled his way to the front, and won in the commonest of canters by a length, three times which distance separated the second and third ; Malibran was fourth, Ladislas fifth, and Newfield last. There was not'much delay at the post, and very few false attempts were made before a good start was effected, and the first two on their legs were Goggles and Elzevir, but they were soon pulled back, and Despair came out with a clear lead of Aiguillette, Goldfield, Gareth, and Donnycarney, the others, on the light, being headed by Lucerne clear of Sachem, while on the left lilzevir and Whip-per-in were separated by - daylight from Goggles. This order was maintained with but little variation until better than a quarter of a mile from home, when Despair was in trouble, but maintained the lead for a little distance further, and came on with Aiguillette in hot pur&uifc, and in turn closely pressed by Donnycarney, Nesscliff, and Nautilus, most prominent of the others being Sachem, Lucerne, and Goggles. Before reaching the Spagnoletti board Elzevir shot to the front, followed by Nesscliff, and the pair soon placed a clear interval between themselves and Despair, Lucerne, Donnycarney, and Sachem. Nesscliff stuck gamely to his work, but the favourite experienced little difficulty in stalling off his | challenge, and ultimately won very easily by a length and a-half ; Despair was a bad third ; Lucerne was fourth, Donnycarney fifth, Sachem sixth, Goggles seventh, Whipper-in j eighth, Goldfield ninth, and next, a long way off, came The Sailor Prince, Drackensburg, and Nautilus, and the last pair were the stable companions, Lowland Chief and Bray'ley. Fauyh-a Ballagh then came «n in front, but in the straight Barcaldine took close order with him, and though for a few strides it looked like being a race between the pair Faugh-a-Ballagh retired soon afterwards, and left the Irish horse to finish a gallant winner by three lengths. When fairly in the line for home Ossian assumed the command, and Ladislas took second place on the outside, St. Blaise following on their heels until Archer callad upon him, when he deliberately " cut it," and would have crept into a mouse- hole had it been possible. Ladislas challenged Ossian at the distance, and a desperate race ensued between the pair, the former getting the best of it in the last few strides, and winning by a head ; a bad third. At the distance he was in trouble, and Chislehurst, coming to the front, quickly shook off the attentions

Wallenstein was first away, and was followed by Dutch Oven for a few strides, when the latter was pulled back last, leaving Tristan second, and Fleur d'Orange third. The lot settled down into single tile, and passed the stand in the order above named, and so to the Hotel turn, where the favourite tried to stop, and was passed by Fleur d'Orange. Fordham, however, quickly got his horse at work again, and setting him going in earnest, gave the goby, first to Fleur d'Orange, and then to Wallenstein, and entered the Swinley Bottom with a clear lead. Approaching the brick-kilns Wallenstein drew up to Tristan's quarters, and at the same time the other pair took closer order. In rounding the bend the favourite again increased his advantage, and came into the straight with a clear lead of Wallenstein and Fleur d'Orange. When fairly in the line for home the two last-named were passed by Dutch Oven, but though Lord Falmouth's mare made a game effort from the Spagnoletti board she could not get on terms with Tristan, who came on and won easily by three lengths ; Wallenetein was a bad third. Before entering the straight, however, he was beaten, and Wallenstein gradually closing with Faugh-a-Ballagh, the pair raa a splendid race home, the favourite securing a hard-earned verdict by half a length ; Credo was a very bad third, and Hagioscope walked in with the crowd. Dutch Oven was first away, and was followed by Tristan, Grandmaster, and Iroquois for a short distance, when Grandmaster took' up the running, Tristan going on second unfcil half way down the hill, when the Hygeia colt rushed to the front, Grandmaster going on second, Blue Grass third, and Shrewsbury fourth, with Bonaparte, Iroquois, and Dutch Oven now the whippers-in. As they entered the old course the Hygeia colt increased his lead to half a dozen lengths, and went on, followed by Blue Grass, Grandmaster, and Prism, with Shrewsbury and Tristan close up, and Dutch Oven still last. At the Brickkilns the favourite pulled his way into second place, and took up the running at the commencement of the bend. Into the straight he was followed by Shrewsbury, Grandmaster, and Prism, Iroquois pulling double in their heels until a quarter of a mile from home, when Shrewsbury took second place, and Iroquois drew up third. At the Spagnoletti board the Yankee passed Shrewsbury, but though he challenged resolutely he could not reach Tristan, who came on and won easily by a length and a half. Shrewsbury was a bad third. Dutch Oven was fourth, a long way clear of Grandmaster, Blue Grass, Prism, and Bonaparte in a cluster, and the Hygeia colt was fast. Time, by Benson's chronograph, 2 mm. 37 2-5 sec.
