Foxhall has thus set the seal on his three-year-old performances and proved himself a cup horse of the first water. His pedigree we published, in full last season, so that wo have no occasion to give it again. His performances are also tolerably well known, but they will bear repetition. He commenced last season at Epsom Spring meeting, where he went to the post for the City and Suburban almost friendless at 100 to 3 in a field of twenty-four horses, but finished a fair second to that grand horse fiend Or, who who was carrying 9st to the Yankee's 6st 81b. Mr Kdene next sent him to Paris, where he won the Grand Prix of 6374 soys, in Fordham's hands, after a desperate fiinish with Tristan, who was steered by Archer. At Ascot Foxhall essayed to win the Cup which he has this year secured, but ran unplaced behind Bobert the Devil, Petronel, and Exeter. He then had a spell till the last week in September, when he won the Grand Duke Michael Stakes of 747 soys, at Newmarket, from Don Fulano, Ishmael, and Maskelyne. Next came his great victory in the CEesarewitch Stakes of 1287 soys, carrying 7st 121bs, and beating eighteen others ; followed by a win in the Select Stakes of 445 soys, beating Tristan and Maskelyne ; and eclipsed by his subsequent victory in the Cambridgeshire Stakes of 2017 soys, in which he carried dut and beat thirty-one others. Foxhall was fortunate in this race, in that a collision between Lucy Glitters and Tristan, enabled him to win by a head j but it was a great performance to be so forward at the finish even if he had not won. To show how he had improved since the spring it may be noted that he gave 191bs in the Cambridgeshire to Tristan, who at even weights had run him to a head in tho Grand Prix. Faugh-a-ballagh was bred in Ireland. His sire, Lord Gough, was bred by Mr Blcnkiron, and is by the French celebrity Gladiateur out of Battaglia ; while his dam Weatherglass is by Student out of Weathenvise. Faugh-a-ballagh ran unplaced in a race in Ireland last season ; unplaced in the Criterion Stakes of 1127 soys, at Newmarket, won by Bruce, with Nellie second, St. Marguerite third ; unplaced in a Nursery Handicap at Warwick. The Duke of Beaufort must, however, have known that he was some good when in form, or he would not have forwarded his sealed up entry for the Ascot Cup. Faugh-a-ballagh scored a win on his first appearance this season, which was at Epsom, on April 20th, in the Riddlesdown Plate. ' Petronel is the well-known son of Musket, who, as a three-year-old, won the Two Thousand Guinea Stakes of 4850 soys, and the Biennial Stakes of 791 soya at Ascot. At four years he won the Epsom Stakes of 647 soys ; the Great Yorkshire Handicap of 785 soys j theDoncaster Cup j and four Queen's Plates. Foxhall was in this race, in all probability, ridden by T. Cannon, whom Mr Keene had engaged at the beginning of the season. Cannon will therefore have performed the unprecedented feat of winning the Ascot Cup four years in succession, and five times in six years, for he won in 1877 on Petrarch ; in 1879 on Isonomy ; in 1880 on Isonomy; in 1881 on Eobert the Devil ; and in 1882 on Foxhall. Fordham has been successful in this race four times, but Archer has never yet secured it.
