The fhg fell without a failure to & splendid start, iv which Battlefield, Springkell, Cloistre?a, Adrastus, and Bonaparte w«re plnced on.

Tho first to break the line were Gerald and Kermease, and they made joint tunning fe* 300 yards, after which the favourite settled down in slight command from St. Marguerite, the pair being followed by Gerald, Laureate, Mfti-'den and Shotover to the bushes, where Springkell, Cloistress, and' Auriga dropped out of tho race. Carlyla and Laureate were also beaten half-way down the hill, and Cannon having taken a pull at the favourite, she waa rejoined by Gerald and Sfc Marguerite, and the, trio came into the Abingdon Mile . bottom, almost abreast, and a length or so clear of Marden and Shotover. ' The last-named pair drew nut in climbing the hill, and as soon, as Kermosse was asked a question, she shot ahead, and, takiog the pull out of St M&rgurite and Gerald in half-a-dczm strides, won easily by a length from the American, half as far separating the second and third. Marden was fourth, three lengths off, Shotover and Bonapnrt fifth and sixth, these being well clear of Auriga, Laura, Battlefield, ' and Carlyle, with Cloistress and Springkell the last two. .Falkirk, in the middle of the course, made .steady running from Fiddler and Scobell on tbe righti Bend Or and Jroquois following in thoir track, with Muriel and Albion side by side on the left, and Buchanan in the rear. The improvement of pace at theT.Y.O. winning post was caused by Fiddler depriving Falkirk of tho command, and Scobell attended him to the bushes, where they changed places, and came down the, hill in front of Bend Or, Ircquois, acd Muriel. The Fiddler was disposed of before reaching the dip, and, with Iroquois beaten as soon as he attempted to climb the hill,' Muriel made a bit of a show on her side, having much earlier lost the company of Albion. Still she was unable to quite secure the five per cents.,, and, although Archer rode Bend Or sharply until half-way up the hill to get on terms with Scobel), he had no .-noner drawn level than the voidiot waa secure, and won easily at last by three parts of a length. Iroquois was a bad third, jußi; clear of Muriel, with Fiddler fifth, Buchanan and Falkirk next, and Albion last. Time, 2 mm. 23 3-5 sec. Value of the stake, £2087. HER MAJESTY'S PLATE,

Eurus made play, and was followed at a clear interval by Chippendale, 4 Euuebe, and Petronel to within half a mile from home, when Eurus had Bhot his bolt, ' Tht lead waa then taken by Chippendale,, with Euaebe on his right and Petronel on his left to the bushes, where the last-named 1 changed sides, the three year- old aa well as Chippendale showing &n inclination to hang to the left. Eusebe cut it in a most unmistakable manner as be entered the Abingdon Mile bottom, and with Chippendale also tacking across the course when challenged by Petronel, the latter, who finiohed as straight as a gun barrel, forged ahead, and wun an exciting raoe by three parts of a length ; a bad third.
