St Louis, who won she Middle Park Plate and is now first favourite for the Derby, is halfbrother to Pellegrica and Pilgrimage, and cost 2,200 guineas as a yearling. He had never raced before this great victory.

Bal Gal austained her first defeat in the Middle Park Plato, she having gone off a good deal and the 71b penaly in addition putting her out of it.

Rossiter had the mount on Robert the Devil in the Champion Stakes and obeyed his instructions to " make every post a winning one " bo strictly that he beat Bend Or by ten lengths in the fast time of 2min. 13sec. for the mile and aquarter and 73 yards.
