Messrs C Brewer and C Blanton's b c Robert the Devil by Bertram— Ca&t-off, Bst 101b 1 Lord Roseberry's b f Cipolata, by Macaroni—Duckling-, Bst 51b .... 2 Mr R C Naylor's b c The Abbot, by Hermit—Barchettina, Bst 101b . . . . . . 3 We published Robert the Devil's tabulated pedigree when he won the Grand Prix de Paris. What became of the Derby winner Bend Or is now the question. Owing to the state of his feet Peck had all his work to do to get him fit enough to win the Derby, and as he since that I met tigi >g was neatly beaten by Isonomy's brother, Fernundez, it is probable that he has been steadily goiDg off since the contest for the great race, and did not etren start for the St. Leger. Altogether Robert the Devil's victory will most likely have been a popular one at Home, for he carried an immense", amount of money; beI sides which a good deal of sympathy was felt ' with bis owners on account of bis bare defeat in

the Derby, and also ou account of the uncertainty attaching to Bend Or's identity. Robert the Devil as a two-year-old ran only twice, and won both races. They were the Goodwood Rons Memorial Stakes of 2067 soys, m which he beat six others, and the Newmarket First October Stakes of 212 soys, when there were only three starters. This year he has been beaten by Lerd Falmouth's colt Apollo at Newmarket ; ran second to Bend Or in the Derby ; won the Grand Prix de Paris ; and was beaten at Newmarket July meeting by Cipolata, at a difference of lllb.

Cipolata won four races ont of six as a twoyear old, but they were not of much consequence. They were the Windsor Plate of 102 soys, Nursery Handicap of 247 soys, at Ayr ; Second October Nursery Handicap of 397 eovs, at Newmarket, beating 14 others ; and the Criterion Nursery Stakes of 312 soys, at Newmarket. This year she ran nowhere in the One Thousand Guineas Stakes, won by Eliza, beth ; did not start for the Oaks ; won the Seventeenth New Biennial Stakes of 520 soys, at Ascot, beating Discord and Petronel ; and won the Newmarket Midsummer Handicap of 480 soys, carrying Bst 71b, and beating Robert the Devil (9at 4lb). The Abbot is one of the most consistent performers of the season. As a two-year-old he ran third in Epsom Woodcote Stakes of 1177 soys, behind Sabella and Prestonpana ; unplaced in the Newmarket July Stakes of 1690 soys, won by Mask; unplaced in the Newmarket Dewhurst Plate of 1670 soys, won by Grace Cup ; won the Houghton Stakes of 300 soys, beating four others. This year he ran third in the Two Thousand Guineas, behind Petronel and Muncaster ; second in the Ascot Prince of Wales Stakes of 3400 soys, won by Zealot ; third in the Hardwick Stakes of 3400 soys, won by Exeter, with Rayon dOc second.
