They were followed by. Neophite on their immediate whip hand,! with Meteora laid well forward hi the centre, and Thebais and Josyan fahead of the Sunshine and Albatross ! fillies on the right. In this order they ran for about half the journey, when Josyan dropped clean out of the ranks in company of Albion, and at the corner 'of the plantation St. Firmin was hanging out signals of distress. In descending the hUI, too, Webb Mbegan to niggle at the favourite, and' with [Iroquois still sailing along, and Neophite and Meteora alsofgoing smoothly, matters did not look bright for Bai Gal ; but as they approached the goal Lord Falmbuth's filly put things in a different light, as she shook off Neophite a hundred yards from home, and then closing with Iroquois stride for stride, won cleverly at last by a head ; a bad third. Thebais was fourth, Meteora fifth, and Albatross filly sixth, with Albion and Josyan the two last. Time, I "mm. 19i sec. . Value of the stakes, £1800. In descending the hill Goater was driving the' Frenchman, but when they began to climb again 'he seemed to have the best of Charibert, who struggled the stouter nevertheless under difficulties, and won an exciting race by three-parts of a length' ; a bad third. Galopade made the running in the centre of the course, and was followed on her right byEolengo, Lennoxlove, Iroquois, and Panique, an 3on tlie other side by Josyan, Voluptuary, Tristan, the Adversity filly, and Golden Plover. The first pair to lose tbeir places were Folengo and Josyan, and Galopade' carried on the running to the foot of the hill r when Iroquois assumed the command. The weight soon afterwards began to tell a tale upon Tristan, and Iroquois came on in front of Lennoxlove, Panique, Voluptuary, the Adversity filly, and Garden Plover to the top jf the hill when the American increased bis lead, and won easily by three lengths from Voluptuary and Panique. The last-named pair ran a dead-heat for second place, just in front of Lennoxlove and the Adversity filly, with 'Golden Plover next, and Folengo and Josyan tailed off.
