ELECTION OF MEMBERS FOR THE COUNTRY DISTRICT TO SERVE IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY.

The nomination of two members to represent the Dunedin Country District in the General Assembly took place on Saturday the Ist inst, at the Courthouse, Dunedin. The Returning Officer having gone through the usual form of reading the writ, called upon the electors to nominate candidates.

- Mr. A. Anderson proposed, and Dr. W. Purdie seconded, the nomination of Mr. John Cargill.

Mr. W. H. Reynolds proposed, and Mr. H. Clark seconded, the nomination of Mr. W. H. Cutten.

Dr. W. Purdie proposed, and Mr. Watson seconded, the nomination of Mr. E. M'Glashan, who, howevpr, declined to stand, stating his reasons for so declining to be of a private nature, and that he did not feel justified in again calling upon the country electors to come to the poll.

There being no other candidates proposed, ihr Returning Officer declared Messrs. John Cargill aiul YV. H. Cutten to be duly elected. The candid.iro. having addressed the eleclois, <md thanks, ha\in<r been voted to the Returning Officer, the meeting separated.
