The election of members for the Ohinemuri County Council occurs to-day. For the Riding of Paeroa we have four candidates,—Messrs Cassrels, Poland. Moore, and Edwards. Mr Cassrels is an old member of the Council, and has a big stake in the County. He is an astute and keen watcher of the interests of the people when they are identical with his own, as they, usually are, owing* to his landed and other possessions in the district.' Mr Hugh Poland, although new oO practical local politics, being a ournalist, has been in touch for years with the requirements of the distiict. He has not set forth any particular programme, but his general sense of what Paeroa requires should assist him in the election. He has youth, vigor, and common sense. . Mr Moore has had three years' i experience in the Council, He represents—and represents well—an important district, one that will be still more and more important, and a sheet anchor for Paeroa. For all that he is a Netherton man he has always helped Paeroa and the County generally during his three years term of office. He can hold j his own in debate, and " full and bye" should be a good Councillor. Mr Edwards has had some experience in Council matters. He was the first County Clerk, sat for eight years in the Council, and was for two years Chairman. He favours, rating on the unimproved value, drainage of Paeroa, and the opening up of the Netherton-Turua and Paeroa-Waitoa districts, also the improvement of the Komata and Marototo roads. We regret that by a casual error Mi- F. Cock's nominatiou was invalid. He has been a painstaking Councillor andCJiairman } and would certainly have been returned. In his capacity of Chairman he has been fair-to all alike, and although temporarily taking leave of office
