MAYOR'S COURT.
Tuesday, 24th October. (Before His Worship tke Mayor.) Drunkenness.—William West was, forbeing drank in Walker street at 11 p.m. ore. the 23rd, fined ss, with the alternative of 24 hours' imprisonment. Matilda Hancock was fined 40s, with the alternative of being sen?tenced to 14 days' imprisonment. Assaulting the Police, &c. — Matilda, Hancock and John Howard were charged with assaulting Constable Haldane in * rigl^t-of-way off Walker street, at 1 a.m» that morning.. It appeared' that on his going to arrest Matilda Hancock on a charge of drunkenness both assaulted him, the man by pulling his beard and actually chewing bis thumb, upon which the constable laid the baton well about him. Hancock was fined £5, with the option of imprisonment for three months ; and Howard £5, or in defaults one month's imprisonment, and for damaging the constable's uniform, was ordered tot pay 10s.
