WAITEMATA SEAT
CAPTAIN LYON'S DEATH
NATIONAL PARTY DECISION
NO BY-ELECTION CONTEST
"It is not the intention of the National Party to contest a by-election to fill the Waitemata seat, made vacant by the death in action of the sitting member, Captain W. J. Lyon,' said the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Holland, in a telephone interview with the Hkkald from Christchureh yesterday. He added that the decision had been reached as a mark of respect to Captain Lyon's memory, and bad the support of the National Party both in the Auckland division and in the electorate.
"The party will, however, contest the seat at. the general elections scheduled to take place later this year," Mr. Holland said.
