NAZI DEMAND
NOTE SENT TO POLAND RECALL DANZIG OFFICIALS SENATE REVIVES DISPUTE WARSAW'S BLUNT REFUSAL By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received June '5, 9.45 p.m.) BERLIN. June 5 The Danzig Senate has sent a Note to Poland renewing its demand for the withdrawal of the three Polish officials who conducted the inquiry into the Ivalthof incident. The Note also complains of the attitude and the numbers of Polish Customs officials in the Free City, which the Polish press describes as "another provocation."
The Polish Commissioner for Danzig, .M. Chodacki, intends to inform Herr G reiser, President of the Danzig Senate, that. Poland refuses to reduce the number of Customs inspectors in the Free City. He declares the inspectors are necessary to prevent the smuggling of arms from Fast Prussia into Danzig.
The Polish inquiry into the Kalthof incident established that 40 motorlorries containing Storm Troopers, guns and ammunition, crossed from Kast Prussia into the territory of Danzig early on May 21 alter Polish Customs inspectors had been driven out of Kalthof.
Poland decided to ignore the first Note from the Nazi Senate of Danzig demanding the recall of the three officials who conducted the inquiry. COUP UNLIKELY HITLER BIDING TIME NO COMPROMISE POSSIBLE FOREIGN OFFICE STATEMENT BERLIN, May 30 Fueling in Danzig is being kept at a high temperature. Danzig Nazis declared that they would eject Dr. Karl Burckbardt, the High Commissioner appointed by the League, if he attempted to resume political activity. They added that 011 no account would Danzigers tolerate the renewed influence of the League. However. well-informed observers here consider that the danger of a German military coup may now be ruled out, and that Herr nitler has abandoned his former demand for a "corridor"' across the Polish Corridor.
Nevertheless, it is felt that "the problem must be solved this year." Some well-informed persons in Berlin believe that Herr Hitler's present ambition is to regain Danzig by peaceful means before the Nureniburg rally of the Nazi Party in September. Reports that Dr. Burckhardt was sent to Warsaw to patch up a compromise are scornfully treated in Berlin and Danzig. It is asserted. " Danzigers do not want a Runciman butting in." Herr Hitler's talks with Herr Albert Forster. the Danzig Nazi leader, are regarded as very important. The German Foreign Office spokesman in Berlin declared: "Danzig's complete incorporation in the Reich is only a matter of time. Germany is recognising no compromise, and is determined that quiet must be restored on the
Polish frontier. Until then, German newspapers will continue fully to emphasise every frontier incident."
