KOPUAWHARA VICTIMS
HELP FOR DEPENDANTS CABINET'S DECISION COMPENSATION TO BE PAID [BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The Cabinet has decided that compensation will be paid to the dependants of the 19 victims of the Kopuawhara camp disaster of February 19. "Although the disaster was caused by an act of God, the Cabinet has agreed with the principle that the men lost their lives while in the execution of their duty," the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple, said to-day. That principle having been established, the Minister added, full information was now being obtained by the Public Works Department as to the dependants of the men, and compensation would be worked out when that was obtained.
