SEARCH FOR BODIES

KOPUAWHARA DISASTER TWO VICTIMS STILL MJSSIH& STREAM AND LAGOON EXAMINED [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] Tuesday In spite of a constant search by police and settlers in the district,, the bodies of Ivan Martinac, a single man. aged 31 years, and R. Douglas, also single, aged 28 years, who jffre lost in the Kopuawhara flood disaster oil February 19 have not yet been found. A party of police under the direction of Sergeant Mcintosh, of Hastings, has scoured the whole area from the camp to the sea and for miles along the coast, but without discovering any trace of the bodies. Constables Thompson and J. Smith, who have been with the party, have resumed their %rdinary duties at Napier. Meanwhile, the search continues. Coastal settlers have been asked to watch the beaches along the Mahia Peninsula,", and a regular examination is being made of the Kopuawhara stream and -the : lagoon into which it empties, and the adjacent coastline. . After the exhaustive search that has been made the only conclusion left is that possibly the bodies were caught on snags and buried beneath the silt which swept down the - valley with the flood water, and was in some places deposited feet deep. That is the general belief in the district., but so far the searchers have been unable Ito discover any indication as to where the bodies may be buried.
