OBITUARY

MR. G. H. S. FOSTER FORMER HOTEL LICENSEE The death occurred at Auckland on Christmas Day of Mr. G. H. S. poster, who was well known as a former licensee of the Imperial and Edinburgh Castle Hotels. He was born at Plymouth in 18G7, and in early life received training at the Greenwich Naval College, from which lie was transferred to H.M.S. Opal. About 46 years ago. Mr. Foster came to New Zealand, and lived hero continuously ever since, apart from a trip that he made to England in 1931. He was actively connected with the. Auckland Orphans Club, of which he was honorary treasurer, and be was also a member of the Auckland Pacing Club, the Auckland Trotting Club and many other sporting organisations. He took a keen interest in all Masonic affairs, and was connected with the Waitomata and Prince of Wales Lodges, the Alexander Lodge of Hamilton and also" the Grand Lodge of England. For a number of years he was connected with the Licensed Victuallers' Association. Mr. Foster is survived by a widow, two sons and a daughter.

Mr. Tucker's continuity of licence for the same house was held to be a world's record in the hotel business. MR. B. S. VICKERS [BY TKLEGItAPU OWN COHItKSPON DENT | OPOTIKI, Tuesday The death has occurred at Opotiki of Mr. B. S. ickers, aged 73 years. He caino to New Zealand from England at an early age, and settled in Opotiki as a young man. He has resided here continuously for 53 years. Mr. Vickcrs was a former member of the town board prior to the constitution of the borough, and was also honorary secretary of the Opotiki Agricultural ami Pastoral Association. He took a keen interest in both town and country affairs, and was an active worker in connection with St. Stephen's Anglican Church. MR. J. T. DUMBELL [BY TKL EGHAPH —OWN conn KSPON dent] XKW PLYMOUTH. Tuesday The death of a former All Black, Mr. John Thomas Dumbell, has occurred at New Plymouth after 13 years as an invalid. Mr. Dumbell, who was 77 years of age, was born in Liverpool, and came to New Zealand when 13 years of age. He played for the Athletic Club, Wellington, and represented the province. He was a member of the unbeaten 1884 New Zealand team, the first Dominion team to tour Australia. Mr. Dumbell is survived by his wife, one son and one daughter.
