OBITUARY

MR. CHARLES CHAMBERS The death occurred at his residence at Birkenhead, on Sunday, of Mr. Charlei Chambers, aged 71. Mr. Chambers wa» well known in Auckland business, musical and yachting circles. He was born at Finchley, London, in 1864, and he followed the profession of accountant. He was secretary and treasurer of the old Auckland Amateur Opera Club, and took part in many of the performances. These activities led to him touring for a number of years as manager with the Westminster Glee Singers and "The Scarlet Troubadours." In 1908 he pur chased the business of John Buchanan, Limited, and retired five years ago. He was a former secretary of the Auckland Workingmen's Club and Mechanics' Institute. Mr. Chambers is survived by his wife and one son.

MR. C. R. B. SPEIGHT [FKO3I Ol'R OWN CORRESPONDENT] Monday The death occurred to-day of Mr. Charles Richard Barton Speight, a wellknown figure in athletic circles in the Waikato, aged 65. Mr. Speight was the second son of Sergeant-Major L. Speight, and he was born in Auckland, where later in his life he engaged in the coach-building trade. He was a keen Rugby player, and represented Auckland, and in 1893 toured Australia with an All Black - team. About 40 years ago Mr. Speight came to Hamilton, where lie represented the town and district at liugby, and was a member of the Amateur Athletic Club. He was also interested in cricket and swimming. For a. period he was a member of the Hamilton Borough Council. He also served on the committee of the Waikato Trotting Club, was a foundation member of the Claudelands Bowling Club, and was a prominent Mason. Mr. Speight married Miss K. Hill, of Hamilton. He is survived by Mrs. Speight, two sons and two daughters. MRS. W. BLOMFIELD The death occurred yesterdav at her residence, Pafuone. Blomfield Sp«i Takapuna, of Mrs. W. Blomfield, who was in her 67th year. The daughter or the late Mr. and Mrs. W. Adams, Mrs. Blomfield was born in Auckland, andwas married in IS9S to Mr. W. Blomfield, a well-known resident of Takapuna, who was Mayor of the boroußQ for some years. Mrs. Blomfield took a keen interest in local affairs and was closely associated with Lady Gunson in patriotic work. During the influenza, epidemic in 1918 Mrs. Blomfield opened her home at Takapuna as a hospital. She was a close friend of LieutenantCommander W. E. Sanders, Y■ V" P. 5.0., Auckland's naval hero, and she entertained Lord Jellicoe when he unveiled the Sanders' Memorial at lakapuna in 1919. CHARLES LIMMER [from our owx correspondent] HAMILTON; Monday The death has occurred at Te Kowhai of Mr. Charles Limmer, aped 88. Air. Limmer was born at Ely, England, an came to New Zealand at the age five. He joined the Armed Constabu a as a youth, and later he became ■ member of the New Zealand po i force. He was stationed m Auckianu and at Mercer. Mr. Limmer took up land at Te Kowliai 55 years ago, a he remained there until his death, took an active part in advancing welfare of the district.
