GOODS ON THE RAILWAY.

DAIRY COMPANY'S OUTPUT. CLOSING OF LINE FEARED. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WIIAKATANE, Saturday. About 200 shareholders of the Rangitaiki Plains Dairy Company, Limited, attended an extraordinary general meeting of the company held in tho Winter Show Buildings, in response to a requisition signed by Mr. G. Melville and other shareholders. Tho position at present is that the company has a contract with the Northern Steamship Company to transport all its dairy produce, and it was inferrod from correspondence with tho Railway Department that if this produce, which is considerable, wero changed to tho railways, it might seriously affect the decision of the Railways Board in its contemplated closing of tho lino from Tancatua to Tauranga.

The proceedings were not open to tho press, but at tho conclusion of tho meeting the chairman staled that a proposal that, in the event of the Railway Board giving an assurance that the lino would not bo closed if tho company's produce was transported by railway, tho directors bo authorised to enter into negotiations with tho Northern Steamship Company for tho cancellation of the existing contract, was carried by a substantial majority. An amendment, which was defeated, was to the effect that tho meeting views with alarm the suggestion that the EaSt Coast lino ntay bo closed unless more support is forthcoming and instructs Jhe directors to send their produce by railway at, the earliest possible moment, and that tbo Railway Board bo advised accordingly.
