MAIN TRUNK LINE.
IMPROVEMENT TO GRADIENT. TE AWAMUTU TO NGAROTO. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] TE AWAMUTU, Tuesday. The work of improving the gradient of the railway line near Te # Awamutu station, which involved making a lengthy filling and building a new bridge over the Mangapiko stream to raise the line about sft., was completed this week, and trains are now using the new line.
The alteration will enable heavier loads to be pulled, as the fall in the line between Te Awamutu and Ngaroto has been much reduced. *
