WAR MEMORIAL UNVEILED.
CEREMONY AT BIRKENHEAD. The unveiling of the Birkenhead war meinori?,l took place on 3unday afternoon, the ceremony being performed by Mrs. M. Neal, a widow, who has long been a resident of the borough, and two of whose sons were killed on active service. • , Addresses were given by Mr. E. G. Skeates, Mavor of Birkenhead, Mr. A. Harris, M.P., Mr. J. H. McNish, and the Rev. J. H. Allen. A permanent wreath of laurel leaves, executed in metal, was placed at the base of the memorial by Miss Skeates, on behalf of the Borough Council. The singing of appropriate hymns was led by a combined choir under Mr. J. H. , Wood, and the Birkenhead Band, under Bandmaster H. Greg-Smith, accompanied the items. The Rev. IL H. Bedford pronounced the Benediction, and the "Last Post" was. sounded. Before the ceremony a .procession of returned soldiers, Birkenhead and Northcote Cadets, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides and Brownies, headed by the Municipal Band, marched from the post office to the civic reserve.
