NEW MAORI CHURCH.

CONSECRATION CEREMONY.

A new Maori church was consecrated at Omaio yesterday by Bishop Sedgwick, of Waiapu, assisted by Archdeacon Williams, the Rev. J. E. Draper, Canon Pahewa and three Maori Jay readers. Tho church was packed many having to stand outside. Tho collection realised £76.

The building has cost £BOO, which has all been collected by Canon Pahewa from natives and pakehas. It will seat 60 people. It is constructed of concrete and roughcast. Inside the building is a brass (ablet fx> fallen soldiers, pakeha and Maori. This was dedicated by tho bishop. Pakeha friends have placed in tho church a font with an inscription as a token of gratitude for 30 years' faithful service by Canon Pahewa. A large hui was held after tho service over 300 being present representing all denominations. This wili be the last official visit of the Bishop to the Maoris as they will soon have their own bishop.
