MANUAL TRAINING SCHOOL.
OPENING AT ONEHUNGA. UP-TO-DATE BUILDING. The Onehunga manual training school, which consists of two buildings, was officially opened yesterday afternoon. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr. R. G. Speight, xwesided, and gave a re : sume of the efforts of the committee to obtain a manual training school for Onehunga. / Mr. J. P. Kalaugher, supervisor of tech* nical education, said that Onehunga possessed the finest manual training school in the province. The total coat was £3825 for buildings, and £418 for equipment. The Mayor, Mr. J. Park, Mr. Q. W. Murray, Mr. H. S. W. King, members of the Education Board, . and others also spoke. Each building is 42ft. by 25ft., and consists of a'main classroom 32ft. by 25ft., with a teachers' room, storeroom and. porch. Under the boys' school is a large basement for storage purposes. The school, which was erected by Mr. H.. Camplin, iB of brick, finished in cement inside and outside. The ceilings are of fibrous plaster, and the roof is of tiles. The front of each building is ornamented with red pressed brick. Mr. H. S. Thomas is the wood work- instructor for boys, and. Miss J. Barr has charge of the giris' classes for the teaching of domestic science. All the scholars in Standards V. and VI. attending the Onehunga, Te Papapa, Mount Roskill and Mangere Bridge schools »will receive instruction for a period of two hours each week in classes of 24. The school will be in session on each Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, the tea'chors being engaged in similar work at Otahuhu on Monday and Tuesday.
