Ths .v deceased was born in Ireland. As af; young man he went to Australia, where he engaged in sheep farming for about | five years. Then he returned to his ; native country, After residing fop a further period in Ireland and Wales, he & left for New Zealand 30 years ago. On ! arrival he settled in Tauranga. and had i since lived here. For many years he was an active member of the local j Jockey Club- He is survived by a widow I and family of 11, three sons and eight i daughters."

AN EARLY SETTLES. The death occurred last week at ika residence of his daughter, -Mrs. Wflliaa C. Anderson, at Karioi, on the Mais Trunk line, of Mr. Thomas White, aa old Aucklander and Maori War- veteran, at the age of 75 years. Deceased landed in Auckland in tie ship Bheßaa-mail with his parents, in the year 1859, at the age of 13f years. When guite a yonth he was called to Drury with some cS the first of the colonial troops to seife lathe Maori War. He afterwards served aS Rangiriri and Orafcau. Ha joined the New Zealand Armed Constabulary 50 years ago/ and was stationed at Alexandra (now Pirongia}, KihikihL and in the Taranaki district. When the aened constabulary was broken no he 'was drafted into the New Zealand police force, and was stationed in Auckland and in the Waikato district. He retired on superannuation in February, 1902, He latterly resided with faia married daughter at Karioi. The deceased married toe eldest daughter of the late Mr. James Farrell, of Kihikihi, Waikato, who predeceased him 4£ years ago. He leaves a. grown-up family of three sons and three daughters.
