OBITUARY.
HON. A. L. D. FRASER.
[BY TELEGRAPH.—I'RESS ASSOOitIOK.] HASTINGS, M&ndij. The Hon. A. L. D. Fraser died earl; this morning, after an illness of over t»j years, aged 57.
The Hon. Alfred L. D. Fraser ms born at Kaiapoi, Canterbury, in 1862, hi! father being Mr. John Marchant Truer. He settled in Hawke's Bay in 1881, and was school-teaching for somo years, late removing to Hastings, where he entered into Native Land Court advocacy. Es unsuccessfully contested tho Hawkc'j Bay seat against Sir William Russell in 1886, but three years later defeated Mr. R. D. D. McLean in the contest for the Napier seat. He was re-elected in 1902 and 1905, but at the 1908 election was defeated by Mr. J. Vigor Brown. He was appointed, to the Legislative Council on May 7,1918.
