Gallant Deeds Recorded.

The Royal Humane Society has awarded testimonials to Rifleman C. G. Feavon and Private F. R. Ellis, Auckland Regiment, for gallantry in saving the life of an Australian soldier who got into difficulties while bathing in Sierra Leone Harbour. The incident occurred when a transport was there last November. Although darkness was setting in, and the harbour was known to be infested with sharks Fearon and Ellis immediately plunged in on hearing the soldier's cries. Fearon reached him and aided him until boats arrived and picked the three of them up. Second-Lieutenant J. M. Paterson, M.C., Royal Field Artillery, has been awarded a bar to his Military Cross. Mr. Paterson practised as a barrister in Dunedin before coming to England two years ago for his commission. - •During an engagement Major R. W. Hannah, M.C., Royal Field Artillery, Wellington, maintained the ammunition supply and conducted the advance of his battery with the greatest skill and resource. He kept' in touch with the infantry in spite of the difficult state of the ground and intense enemy 'shelling, and though wounded he- remained on duty. Major Hannah set an example of courage and initiative which bad a splendid effect on his men, and he has'been awarded the D.S.O. His war services began in Samoa, and later he came to England, obtaining a commission in the Royal Field Artillery in the middle of 1915. He is an old boy of Wellington College, and second son of Mr.- Robert Hannah.'
