The items arc many, and involve a heavy expenditure, no doubt in view of the impending general election. For sendees chargeable to the Consolidated Fund the amount is £233,429, while the total chargeable on the Public Works Fund is £147,540. The Speaker and Chairman of Committees eacli receive an extra allowance of £200, making the Speaker's salary equal to £800, and Mr. Millar's equal to £600. A somewhat peculiar item is a grant to Mr. R. M. Houston, M.H.R., for special services rendered as* chairman of tho Native Affairs Committee for a lengthened period. The seed' is drilled in, manure being applied at the same operation, and the complete harvester has greatly simplified the work of reaping, cleaning, and bagging the wheat.
