SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS.

The second of the New Zealand swimming championship meetings under the auspices of the Auckland Swimming Club was held last night at the Albert Baths. There was a very largo attendance of tho public. Tho arrangements were carried out admirably, and rofleet great credit on Mr. Chovis, tho club's painstaking secretary. Most, of the events were splendidly contested, and the close finishes speak well for the handicapping of Mr. Evro. In tho 440 yds Championship, G. A. Tyler had matters practically his own way, winning by a length of tho baths from Stroud, of Wellington. The following are tho results: — 72Yds Groy Memorial Handicap: First heat— Scott, 1; A. Johnston, 2. Second heat-H. Hall, 1; R. G. Rainer, 2. Third heat—G. Burke, 1; T. V. Frost, 2. Fourth heat-W. 15, Dorvan, 1; J. Russell, 2. Fifth heat—S. Kean, 1; A. E. Dale, 2. Final—G. Burke, 1; H. Hall, 2; W. E. Dcrvan and S. Kean dead heat for third place. 440 Yds Championship of New Zealand: G. A. Tyler, 1; F. Stroud (Wellington), 2; J. T. Frazer, 3; P. J. Bailey, 4. Time, 6m. 29 2-58. Won by fully 35 yards. Plunge Championship of Now Zealand J. Russell, 55ft '3in, 1; Wilson, 52ft 7Jin, 2. 108 Yds " Wikitoria" Handicap: First heat —P. Graham, 1; S. J, Easdown, 2. Second heat—lt. G. Raingor, 1; W. G. Tyler, 2. Third heat—M. Scott, 1; J. Russoll, 2. Fourth heat—E. C. O'Hare, 1; E. A. Stono, 2. Final— Graham, 1; R. G. Raingor, 2; M. Scott, 3. O'Hare finished first, but was disqualified for starting before his time. Neat Header: Browno, 1; Wilson, 2; Frost, 3. During tho evening Miusos Wrack (2), Anderson (2), Keeno, Sampson, and Casey, gave a most creditable exhibition of lifesaving. There was also a Challenge Race (50yds) between Messrs. O'Haro and O'Connor, tho former winning. Mr. Cosscr gave a fino exhibition of fancy swimming, and gained great applause. The committee aro to be congratulated on tho oxocllent manner in which tho meeting was carried out.
