RELIGIOUS RECEPTION. On Trinity Sunday. MayjjftOtli, 185$, nPHE solemn and sacred ceremony of the Religious Reception of four Postulants of the i- Convent of the Sisters of Mercy at Auckland, Miss Lany, (called in Religion Sister Mary Francis Regis) ; Miss Youel, (called in Religion Sister Mary Claret; Miss Maxwell, (called in Religion Sister Mary Austin) ; Miss Bush, (called in Religion Sister Mary Francis de-Sales); took place in St. Patrick's Cathedral. The ceremony was performed hy the Right Rev. Dr. Pompallier the venerated Bishop of Auckland, assisted hy the Very Rev. James McDonald, Vicar-General, as Assistant Priest, the Rev. Joseph Garavel (Deacon), and Rev. Michael O'Hara (Sub-Deacon), the Rev. Edward Cleary of Onehunga, together with the Students of St. Mary's College, were present on the above memorable occasion. At the appointed hour His Lordship, vested in Golden Cope, Mitre, and Crazier, accompanied by His sacred Ministers, the Vicar-General, Clergy, and the Students of the College came in procession from the Vestry to the High Altar, where all genuflected, and after offering to Almighty God the usual prayer, His Lordship proceeded to His Episcopal Throne, awaiting the arrival of the Religious thirteen in number, who came in procession, followed hy the four Postulants', the latter clothed in a secular dress of the richest description. After the blessing of the Candles, which were given to each of the Postulants, his Lordship delivered a most eloquent and pathetic discourse on Christian Abnegation, taking for his text these words, from PltovEßßS— "The Lord, hath made all things for Himself." The excellent Choir of the Cathedral, (under the able direction of the Sisters of Mercy), sane the several portions of the ceremony with superior taste and skill. Notwithsanding the inclemency of the day, there was present a large and respectable congregation ; a liberal collection was made in aid of the Orphanage and religious establishments of the bisters of Mercy. The holy and imposing ceremony on this occasion, together with his Lordship's fluent and persuasive discourse will no doubt, make a lasting impression of piety and religion on the numerous faithful who had the great happiness of being present.
