The Lucy & James, arrived fit Onehunga on Thursday morning. She sailed from Wellington on the 7th instf, and ftom Taranaki on Tuesday latt. The Cornelia/from Londo „ theHth November, arrived at Nelion on the 29th March ; the Travancore, from the Downs the 9th December, had arrived at Canterbury. The English mail by the latter vessel h-dbeen received at Wellington in time to be despatched by the Lucy & James to Auckland. The barque Mann, Capt. Plank, from San FranCisco, armed at Wellinßton on the 6th iuat. She cle B r*dout at San Francisco, on iS'h February, for Valnarasio. but afterwards her declination wai altered for New Zealand. Wreck of ihe Schooner John Whitelky — By the arrival of the Lucy & James we have intelligence of the total lo 88 of this fine new schooner, to. getber with the greater part of her cargo, which occurred en the morning of Monday the 31st March, on a reef near the entrance of the harbour of New Plymouth, to which port she was bound. She cleared out at Auckland on the 7th, and tailed from Manakau on the Bih ultimo with a valuable general cargo of merchandize and touched at Kawhia, .where she took on board a quantity of wheat. SUe arrived off Taranaki on the evening of Sunday the 30th ultimo, and Capt. Liddeil kept as near *hore as posiible. rotnder to come to the anchorage early next morning. Ihe weather wr» veiy boisteroui, and the night dark, and tbe vessel having made more way to windward than the Captain bad reckoned, she struck suddenly on the Pupitapu reef and shortly after vent to piecei. Mrg. Liddell, her daughter, and Mr. Charlton. of Kawhia, were passengers in the Tfssel, but their lives, bs well is those of the Captain and crew, were providentially saved. The ichooner was the moperty of ibe Captain ; tbe was built by him at Kawhia for the Auckland and New Plymouth trade. He ha» sustained a heavy low on thus being deprived of hU veisel, md we are glad to learn that a subscription h« been proposed at Taraniiki to asiist him to re. place her; our Auckland mercantile men, we are sure, will be at ready as any to contribute towards such an object. _
