OAMARU-NASEBY RAILWAY COMMITTEE.

A meeting of this Ootnmittee took place yesterday morning in the County Council Chambers. Present — ■ Messrs Steward (Chairman), Reid, Gibbs, Hislop, Sumptor, Brown, Bee, Evans, and Moore.

MINUTES, &C Tho minutes of tho previous meeting were read and confirmed, and the outward correspondence was road and approved.

TELEGRAM FBOM NASBBY. A telegram (published yesterday), received from the Mayor of Naseby, intimating that a lino from Duntroon to Livingstone would receive the genoralsupport of the district, in consequence of the advantage of direct communication with Canterbury.

Sir, — I havo the honor to hand you enclosed copy of a resolution passed by the Waimate County Council, with reference to the proposed Railway Works from Oamaru, via Duntroon, to Naseby. THE TBANBRAKI ROUTE. A memorandum was handed in, Mr Koid showing that from Teanoralci towards tho Pass, say 20 miles, taking an avorage width of 5 miles on each side, would give about 128,000 acres of land, varying in quality from rich agricultural to good pastoral, and nearly all capable of improvement by cultivation.

THE WAIMATB EXTENSION. A long discussion took place on the subject of the suggestion made at the Interview with the Waimate Council, that the proposed line from Waimate to Duntroon should form part of a scheme for a through railway ; and it was ultimately unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr Evans, seconded by Mr Reid— That the Waimato County Council be askqd^ whether, in the event of its beinj; made" part of the scheme to connect Waimate by rail with the Qamaru-Naseby lino at Duntrdon or Livingston, Waimate County would in such case be prepared to join in supporting a Bill, and consent to the setting aside of, say, 100.000 acres of land within the County as part of the railway endowment.

THE RAILWAY BILL. The precis of a Bill to carry out the railway scheme was then road and explained by Mr Hialop, and discussed by the Committee; and it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Evans, seconded by Mr Reid — That the heads of the Bill, as prepared by Mr Hislop, be agreed to, and that the thanks of the Committee be minuted to that gentleman for his promptitude in their preparation. It was further resolved — That Mr Hiv lop be requested to get a complete draft prepared without delay, and to obtain such clerical and other assistance as he may deem necessary ; also, that Mr Hislop be asked kindly to prepare a copy of the draft, and forward the same for the consideration of the Maniototo Council at the earliest opportunity. Also — 1 hat the Secretary ascertain by telogram when the next meeting of the Maniototo Council takes place.

DEPUTATION TO WAITAKI COUNCIL. It was resolved, on the motion of Mr Reid, Becorded by Mr Gibba — That the Chairman and Messrs Hislop and Erans bo appointed a deputation to wait on the Waitaki County Council at their meeting on Thursday next, with a view to consulting them about the Bill, and obtaining a definite reply re endowment, &c.

DEPUTATION TO WAIMATB COUNCIL. Messrs Moore and Gibbs were appointed a deputation to the Waimate Council, in connection with the resolution previously passed re that County' assistance for a through railway scheme.

ADJOURNMRNT. Tho Committee then adjourned until Saturday, 14ch inst., at 10.30 am., to recoivo the reports of the deputations, to decide as to the question of route, and for the consideration of the draft Bill. The meeting to bo convoned by postcards, ,
